Getting a new iPad is exciting, but your excitement may quickly turn into dread when you realize that all your information, media, and saved passwords are on your now old iPad.
Fortunately, you can transfer the data from your old iPad to the new one and it is not too difficult either. Below, we will show you how to get that data transfer going!
Use Quick Start to Transfer the Data
If you have your old iPad with you and it is still functioning, you want to check and verify that it is running an iOS of 11 or higher. If it is, you can utilize the Quick Start feature to transfer over your data. This is actually one of the fastest and most efficient ways to do so.
Do keep in mind that the Quick Start feature can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to complete depending on how much data you do have to transfer and your Wi-Fi connection.
Ready to transfer your data using Quick Start? Here’s what to do:
- Connect your old iPad to a stable and secure Wi-Fi network and turn on Bluetooth
- Turn your new iPad on and place it right next to your old iPad
- Connect your new iPad to the same stable and secure Wi-Fi network (you can connect via your device’s network as well)
- Select the Apple ID that you want to transfer data from and press the continue button
- Once the new iPad starts to display an animation on the screen, navigate to the camera viewfinder on your old iPad and snap a picture of the animation on the new iPad
- (If your old iPad’s camera function does not work, click the authenticate manually option)
- Follow all of the instructions that pop up on the screen
- You may be prompted to enter in your new iPad’s passcode and you may be prompted to setup security features on the new iPad as well, go ahead and do these things
- When the message Transfer Data from [Device Name] appears, click Continue to start
- Keep both devices near each other until the data has been transferred successfully
Use iTunes or Finder to Transfer the Data
If you have backed up your data to your computer, you can utilize either Finder or iTunes to transfer the data to your new iPad. Here’s how:
